Because of Omnis, I lost my domain (which is my own name!)
In early September, I transfered my domain to Omnis.com. The company got my money alright, but two months later I was still unable to complete the transfer or manage my domain.
I complained on several occasions through their "support" email, support@omnis.com - an experience that was useless and time consuming. I received e-mails from at least three different people at Omnis and they all gave me different reasons for the problem - they did not get the info they required to authorize the transfer (which I mailed weeks ago), the domain was locked by someone else, my previous registrar needed to transfer it, etc, etc, etc. Solutions? None.
After weeks of frustration and wasting time, I asked them to refund my money, so that I could take my domain name somewhere else. Ever since the problem started, I've been checking at register.com and whois.com, to see what was the status of my domain. It always appeared as unavailable, but in the past few days, when I tried to see the owner of the domain, my name did not appear. It just said "website not found."
Today, I checked again and, much to my shock, it appears that the domain (my own name) is registered by a company in Kenya, which is probably trying to make a buck at my expense - thanks to Omnis's incompetence.
I'm a journalist, in the middle of a book deal and need to have my domain name back. My only mistake was transfering it to a crappy company such as Omnis. I'm consider legal action against the company. If you need to register a domain name, I suggest stay as far away from Omnis as you can.
