It's simple, just use Awstats that your host provides you with.

I think your host must offer you some tools for monitoring your web site. Let's take A2hosting.com, they offer Access to Raw Log Files, Webalizer visitor Statistics, Analog visitor Statistics, AWStats. These tools are very helpful in web site monitoring.

Is there any tools for web site monitoring in your package plan?
As I know many web hosting companies provide them in their shared web hosting plans. For example, Webhostingbuzz.com provides Awstats, Raw Access Logs in their budget hosting plans.

Many web masters use Alexa. Is it good?

Alexa is just a statistical avg. from the data obtained from their toolbar users. It is never going to be very acurate(especially if traffic is low) but alexa gives a measure of the traffic of sites you have no control over.

For your own site, you may use the softwares provided with control panel or google analytics which is great.
