I believe some of the prices are very high considering you can get most of these services for free if you search the internet. I believe though that I guess the price of dedicated servers must be going up since I have only seen my hosting bill go up. I don't understand how people could be paying more for hosting when prices were suppose to go down. I think that it is really up to the consumer what is a fair price for the service they need but I think the prices of the sites you listed are pretty high. I hope things change soon and prices of these types of services fall. If they don't i am going to go broke trying to pay my hosting bill. :(

I'm real curious if anyone knows a "free" Java hosting site.
I'm especially interested in the ability to do jsp.

Wow i am surprised. You are right! - The internet is a changing place and most of the sites that hosted java for free turned to pay sites. I am also interested if anyone could find low cost or free java host since i can't find any good ones. I am surprised how things change in a matter of a month or two. :D
http://www.freehostingweb.com supports Java. One time $50 fee (despite the name).

free hosting does look cheaper but i will go for a little *self promotion* i don't technically work for this company anymore tho - but i do still host all my sites with them
webinsite.net hosting (http://webinsi5.webinsite.net/mivastore/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WebInSite&Product_Code=SP&Category_Code=HO) they have a starter for $9.95/m $50 setup and it states that java is supported.
if this in not appropriate then please delete ;) this is the only host i actually use so the only one i can comment on

Neither freehostingweb.com (http://www.freehostingweb.com) nor webinsite.net (http://webinsi5.webinsite.net/mivastore/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WebInSite&Product_Code=SP&Category_Code=HO) seem to have JSP scripting support. JSP as well as Servlets are what I'm looking for in a hosting site.
Most sites allow applets for functions such as chat... but this is different than a host that allows you to build a content based, database driven web site that uses Java from the ground up.

Yeah i know those are things that wouldn't be a demand for everyone out there looking for hosting companies that support java scripts. That is why you are having trouble find any hosts that do offer this service.

well, since your looking for jsp instead of just java did you try this search? google serp: jsp hosting (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&querytime=MEOZ&q=jsp+hosting) - not being nasty, just asking
i will ask vicki about jsp - she has a new server and has not updated all the new options (i don't think)

I'm seeing some sites that I didn't before... thanks for 'prodding' me in the right direction. ;)

It is descibed as -- Service (including servlets) is FREE. Comes with 5 Megs of space (the concept is that other files are stored somewhere else). Powered by Resin on an Alpha server running Linux. I have been real impressed at how much they offer for free. I'm practicing my JSP! :)

I found a really good one. http://www.eatj.com/ Good price. Basic plan only $9.85/month. They even provide free trial account. To activate free trial account, it only takes a few seconds. I have had an account with them for two years. I like it.
