I like it Baz - pretty simple structure looks ok.

As always I would say to check your technicals as they are not ideal, so that will be hitting your google SERPS traffic & gives a bad impression for users - you can check at gtmetrix.com to get a list of how to fix it all (gtmetrix is nothing to do with me, costs nothing to use, no registration or any details required).

As it stands you get rated a B & C (think exam results.... you really wants A's and B's).

Page load time is 5 seconds which is going to be giving you HIGH bounce rates as people cannot be bothered to wait that long for your page to come up.

You've committed the schoolboy error of not enabling gzip on the site, doing that alone will hugely improve your technical stats which will be reflected in better SERPS & higher traffic rates.

Many thanks for the feedback!

I have got a high bounce rate and I'm trying to work out what is causing it. I'm trying to provide good quality content on the site, so I guess its to do with page load speed.

Having said that I've tried to optimise as much as possible and I'm pretty sure gzip compression is enabled in my Apache config. Google page speed say's it's enabled as do some other sites.

The gtmetrix site says that gzip is not enabled for some of my ads but I guess I can't do much about that.

My CSS and Javascript are all minimized and I asynchronously load my javascript, so I'm not sure what else I can do tbh.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Baz, I'm not really one of those 'internet helper' type people & that's not my line... I was just trying to point you in the right direction.

The Gzip thing definitely can be tweaked - it's not just an off/on type thing, I would look into that first off as it is an easy win, but the other HIGH impact issues listed on the gtmetrix report should also be addressed.
