Building backlinks using directories?

hello everyone,

I want to know for building backlinks should I submit sites to directories?
Are submitting sites to the directories will create negative impact on my ranking?

Thanks

You can submit site to directories to get backlink, there is no such negative impact on the ranking of your site.there are some fact about directory which are as follows
1.it takes some time to approve link
2.the only homepage you can add to directory
3.directory site gives backlink to your website for specific time like 1 year or 6 months

Directory submission is no more helpful as Google considers these websites are thin sites with very less content. Hence these websites are rarely crawled and indexed today.
