Yes I agree with you having unique content will improve the ranking ...But sometimes even having unique we cannot have the ranks what we expect...

I have never got much results with unique content :(

I think you should concentrate on increasing traffic in spite of getting ranking. Guest blogging is the best way to increase traffic. You will get relevant traffic from guest blogging.
