There is a lot of difference between no follow and do follow. It's like day and night.

There is a term called juice, which a website passes when it links to another website.
Here are major differences:

No follow:
Don't pass the juice
Consider the link as non-trusted
You don't get a benefit of the website's high PR.

Do follow:
Passes the juice
Consider the link as trusted
Benefit of website's high PR
Help is link building.

Dofollow links allow google (all search engines) to follow them and reach our website.

Nofollow links attributes do not allow search engine bots to follow link. That means if the website owner is linking back to you with nofollow attributes, it does not pass on link juice

Do-follow link is an attribute of link, if link is “do follow” then search engines will follows the link and so link juice gets passed while nofollow is an attribute that do not pass link juice so dont affect the search ranking.

Nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct search engines bots that a hyperlink should not influence the link target's ranking in the search engine's index

Use Do Follow Links For :

Relevant content,
Content that is useful for visitors,
Internal links.

Use No Follow Links For :

Irrelevant content,
Affiliate links,
Sponsored links,
Advertising,
Comments,
Footer links.

Get Do Follow Links To Your Site By :

Producing great content,
Guest blogging (for relevant sites),
Linking out to others, who may then link back.

Dofollow is a link that allows Google Bot (Spider) to follow the link to the website. Spider would think that this is a secure link that web users need to know for themselves to index into Google
Nofollow The link informs the Google bot that the link I do not care, Google do not index it. Even if the textlink is bad then I do not lose my whore. Is the attribute of the rel tag that is placed in the tag's path with rel = "nofollow"

Nofollow links attributes do not allow search engine bots to follow link. That means if the website owner is linking back to you with nofollow attributes, it does not pass on link juice. Only Humans will be able to follow the links. Though some time back Google made it clear that they don’t consider nofollow link attributes but weight age of such links are really less. Even though, it’s a good practice to use Nofollow link attribute to those link, where you don’t want to pass link-juice.
