Usually when someone requests a page that doesn't exist, a server will return a 404 error. This HTTP response code clearly tells both browsers and search engines that the page doesn't exist. As a result, the content of the page (if any) won't be crawled or indexed by search engines.

The webpage you were trying to reach could not be found on the serve..

A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect which passes between 90-99% of link juice (ranking power) to the redirected page. 301 refers to the HTTP status code for this type of redirect. In most instances, the 301 redirect is the best method for implementing redirects on a website.

Soft 404 errors. More often than not, when somebody asks for a page that doesn't exist, a server will give back a 404 (not discovered) mistake. This HTTP reaction code obviously tells both programs and web indexes that the page doesn't exist.

Soft 404 errors are when your site give 404 mistakes without 404 HTTP status code. It can occur on old CMS systems(or threatening ones) that show thin\similar pages or demonstrate the landing page rather than 404 mistakes.
|
Soft 404 HTTP response code indicates that a website's server could not find the page (URL) that was requested by the user, which informs both browsers and search engines that the page doesn't exist.
