Hashtags are used to categorize and classify things, news, events, trending topics, pictures etc.
Hashtags help in finding all the relevant content that have used that particular hashtag.
For e.g., if I search for hashtags related to flowers on Instagram I will enter #Flowers - This will fetch all the pictures that have used the Hashtag #flowers.
hashtags help in grouping of similar content.
