taekwondo

A Taekwondo is a korean martial arts that developed about 2000 years ago. Evidence that Martial Arts were being practiced at that time can be found in tombs where wall-paintings show two men in fighting-stance.
Taekwondo is composed of 3 words :
Tae means ” to strike or break with the foot “
Kwon means ” to punch or to destroy with hands or fist “
Do means ” the art, method and the way “

Taekwondo is known for its emphasis on kicking techniques, which distinguishes it from martial arts such as Karate or southern styles of Kung Fu.Taekwondo full contact is allowed and opponents score “points” by kicking and punching the body at certain targets above the belt. Competitors must wear protective gear such as a chest protector, mouth guard, helmet and arm / leg guards. The person who scores the most points in three rounds is declared the winner.
This martial art is popular with people of both genders and of many ages. Physically, taekwondo develops strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. An example of the union of mental and physical discipline is the breaking of wooden boards, bricks or tiles, which requires both physical mastery of the technique and the concentration to focus one’s power.
