Sorry for saying "NO". Yes..blog commenting is not appropriate technique *now*. It helped a lot in the past but now, its not. I checked with my website(s). But that doesn't help me. Please check your backlinks pointing from any blog after commenting on it? Instead write your own blog, google loves links from the unique content.
