To find files and emails quickly, a desktop search program must build and maintain an index database. To build its index, CDS starts by looking for documents, emails, attachments and multimedia files on your hard drive. It then scans and extracts their contents to build its own index, a database of keywords. To maintain a fresh index, CDS uses real time indexing and automatic updates. The index includes several types of information, namely:
File name, folder, location on your computer
Metadata: title, date, author, etc.
Text contents of supported files
