JavaScript is one of the front-end scripting languages ( others are VBScript, JScript by MicroSoft ). It is by far the most popular language on the planet.

When the web started, the web pages were just static content like texts and images. No dynamic content like videos or even the changing time. This was why JavaScript was born and that's what it does along with some other things.

Without JS, this forum ( or any other forum rather ) wouldn't exist. You show static content in HTML. You style it with CSS and everything else is JS - communicating with Server, handling button clicks ( or touch, on mobile devices ).

Not only netscape ( though netscape actually created JS for their netscape navigator ). Every browser has JS. Every browser has it's JS engine ( web engine ) or the OS iself will have one - Android has V8, for example.
