Mobile-first indexing means Google predominantly uses the mobile version of the content for indexing and ranking. Historically, the index primarily used the desktop version of a page's content when evaluating the relevance of a page to a user's query.

There will be 5.07 billion mobile users by 2019. Parallel with the growth of smartphone users, the number of mobile searches is also rising at an astonishing pace. In fact, almost 60 percent of search queries come from mobile devices, meaning that they have finally surpassed desktop searches.

Mobile-first compartmentalisation means that Google preponderantly uses the mobile version of the content for compartmentalisation and ranking. traditionally, the index primarily used the desktop version of a page's content once evaluating the connection of a page to a user's question.

Mobile-first indexing means that we'll use the mobile version of the page for indexing and ranking, to better help our — primarily mobile — users find what they're looking for.” In short, Google is crawling the web as a smartphone browser would render your website, as opposed to how a desktop browser would.

Mobile-first indexing means that Google looks at all mobile websites first when indexing and ranking content for search results.
