This depends on your classification of "expensive". High quality ethical and natural SEO costs more because you are paying for the return on that investment. SEO is a science ans an art that will bring in more money to your company than it takes. An ethical SEO company will focus on your ROI.

You can buy services PPC, but when you don't have money. Your keywork will lost. And if you SEO, you don't have money to pay anymore. Your keywork still there

seo is complicated, the best way is to hire Your own SEO spec and copywritter. It is cheaper than a company and they do all background and linking pernamently and for You only. A lot of seo company add links to their background pages and when You decide to not pay them anymore they just simple unlink You and You are going DOWN

SEO does not have to cost anything, material-wise, that is. Good old fashioned work will get you results if you apply yourself by constantly learning, picking up tips and applying them to your site and your link building campaign.

If you can't afford SEO then other option is PPC.Its also paid but less expensive then SEO.
