Articles if published on your own site can be profitable. Usually articles are used to bring traffic to some blog or website. A blog is quite easiest , no limitation and good earning source. It is easy to set up and you can write things as you want without limitation and any standards. Difference between articles and blogs is the way of writing..and putting links....You can get some blogging tips here.
