Who Manages The Domain Names?

According to some experts, there are about 1 billion websites and several billion internet pages . So, how come we always fall on the one we want to look for? Why do not we talk about IP address conflict? In reality, a well-defined and well-oiled ftp hosting structure lies behind these domain names, a structure of international stature that has at least one branch in each affiliated country.
Why a domain name?

For a given user to reach a given site through the same network used by billions of users and billions of websites, there must be a good ranking system. Initially, the system used was IP (Internet Protocol) addressing. IPv4 is the current standard (soon replaced by IPv6), has four numbers of the type 91.198.174.192 . And the advantage of IP is that the identification sequence is very light, it weighs only 4 bytes. Indeed, we must not forget that this sequence will cross millions of kilometers and must reach them as soon as possible.
However, for the average user, memorizing numbers can be quite difficult. Indeed, wikipedia.org for example is much easier to memorize than a sequence of numbers. This is how the domain name was invented. However, do not understand that the IP system has not been completely replaced. The domain name is just a mask for the user, which will be translated into IP by the central server, before traveling around the world.
Who manages the domain names?
The central body that manages the domain names is ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) . It is a non-profit corporation located in California that has a role of resource administration and coordination of different actors.
However, we must understand that a single company cannot handle billions of domain names alone. This is how the idea of using section was put in place. More concretely, these are the top-level domains, better known by the extensions of the domain name in question. There are now more than 500 top-level domains. They can be generic or national.
Each section is then managed by another independent organization (AFNIC for the .fr for example), which is more commonly called "Registry" . However, this organization has a more technical management and coordination role. It will leave it up to other organizations to take care of sales and basic management, such as LWS , Aa-Hosting, Hostgator ... These last entities that are more commercial, we call them "Registar", with whom customers (website owners) will deal directly.
