The rel=canonical element, often called the “canonical link”, is an HTML element that helps webmasters prevent duplicate content issues. It does this by specifying the “canonical URL”, the “preferred” version of a web page. Using it well improves a site's SEO.

canonical will help the webmaster to identify the original link. It avoid the duplicate content.

The 1st link bombaypaintesdecor has used the ‘relative URL’ for the canonical tag. While the 2nd one uses absolute URL method. Both are good and will work without any problem. But it is recommended using absolute links to minimize potential confusion or difficulties. If your document specifies a base link, any relative links will be relative to that base link.
