What Is Trackback or Referral links?

Trackback will show you another website that linked to your content. Because they linked that doesn't mean that people click on the link and come to your website. It is more focused in how your content is rewarded by getting linked from other web sites. Referral traffic is traffic coming from other domains. People have to come to your site. In a simple scenario, let's assume that someone links to your content and two visitors on the other web site visit the page. The first visitor simply read the article and the second visitor reads the article and clicks into the link. In both cases you will see the domain in the trackback report but only in the second case you will receive referral traffic from that domain.

A trackback URL is where somebody posts a link to their site on your site. In return, they have posted a link to your site on their site and have copied an article you have written. A referral link is assigned to a customer after they are invited and signed up for a referral program. It's made to be unique for each individual and it is also tied into the tracking of a visitors arrival to a web page. Referral links are the bread and butter of rewards programs.

Blog Trackback is a link-back method for blog authors to be notified when somebody links to their blogs and other resources. The term blog trackback is generally used for every type of link-back. It will help them to identify the sources of links to their blogs.
