No, no-follow backlinks are not useless as they help to drive traffic on your website.

No follow is a link attribute that instructs spiders not to crawl the particular backlink on the webpage. Hence these links are never indexed in search engines. They are only used to build traffic from various external webpages.

No. no-follow links are also valuable and search engine rank the site for no-follow links also but in a different way and less effective than dofollow links. But no-follow links are better than dofollow links as there is no chance to get penalized from Google.

1) Nofollow backlinks helps to drive traffic through constant engagement with people in various social media sites like facebook, twitter, instagram, pinterest, youtube etc.
2) Also quora.com provides no follow backlink and it plays a very important role in generating traffic

no-follow backlinks are useful but there is a ratio of no-follow and do-follow. A ratio is 70% and 30%.

To sum it up: link building is generally about creating referral traffic. Backlinks you earned naturally end up being the most valuable ones. Nofollow backlinks are not useless at all; on the contrary, they must be a part of your SEO strategy.
