There is one thing that protects a website against Google Bowling - a solid back link profile of its own. The more your "real" quality backlinks grow, the less anyone Else's malicious actions can affect it.

Google bowling is a form of negative SEO. It is buying sitewide links for competitor sites that means purchasing links ads across the entire site thus causing them to incur the Google penalty. Simple, evil and a very real practice.
