website1 - blog for website1 - social media (facebook, stumbleupon, digg etc.)
blog for website1 - blogging networks - then linking back to website1

Link wheels are complete and utter crap. And no, I have absolutely no compunction in saying that whatsoever. They fail to address anything important, or, for the sake of this discussion, relevant to the task at hand.

I am in a perpetual state of utter amazement that folks actually fall for this sort of thing in the services section. This is on par with "we submit your site to 5000 pr 5 directories" While accurate the home page of some unattended directory might be ok, the page with which your link is actually on is not indexed and will stay that way forever. This is because the site offers absolutely nothing to anyone. When is the last time you perused a directory to find something?

You shouldn’t create a link wheel.

Not because it is Black Hat, but because, you will probably fail to create an efficient link wheel.

You will leave behind “footprints” that google will hunt down in minutes and then penalize your site.

Site C linking to Site D.
Site D linking to site A.

Look, to rank higher, you need backlinks.

You know that: If you link to your friend’s blog and he’ll link you back, google will know. So the mutual friend comes in between.

You link to your friend’s blog, he links to the mutual friend’s blog and the mutual friend links to your blog. Everybody got a link without linking to each other directly.

You may think that you fooled Google this way, but unfortunately you won’t.
