Inexperienced user looking for a host

Hi folks,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm looking to start a vBulletin forum but have no idea on what kind of host or how much space I will need and / or how much i should be paying.

I am aiming to create a migration of around 5000 members from one forum to a new forum I'm creating. Can someone explain to me what I should be looking for? I've been told VPS.

I understand you may need more info so please ask any questions

Hey BillyBob,

Can you provide some more information about your current forum? The one with the 5000 members?

Depending on what platform you are on now, there are different ways to finding out how much disk space and bandwidth you'll need with your next host.

Also, it's important to know the specs of your current host's server as as well as your peak concurrent user at the busiest times of the day.

i would suggest you to get some kind of High Availability Shared Hosting account. This would save you money on software licenses and on VPS management. Otherwise VPS is a very good option. A quality entry level VPS can be purchased at $20/month on average. However you'd need control panel (Webmin, Kloxo, Froxlor are free options) and management service.

VPS will be the best hosting solution for you. One of the best options for getting cheap VPS plans is Topxen.com. The combination of quality and cheapness makes them attractive for the greater part of the web masters.

Newhost.ro - My friends and I use their hosting services and we are happy.
They have been fabulous, guiding me to transfer my domain, copying my site files WITHOUT any downtime, and even providing documentation to get started.
Overall, I have no complaints, and I even referred a few of my co-workers to use them as well.

If I were you, I'd choose wansecurity.net VPS hosting solutions.
you get what you pay for. It is still very reasonable in my opinion, the stability is excellent, and the support is priceless. I would very highly recommend them to anyone, whether hosting a small site, or running a reseller account.
