I am right here with target for getting page ranking in google search results page. I have heard about back links but not sure just what they are and how they assist in SEO Ranking

Back links are the most important part in SEO for ranking well in search engine results. They are the incoming links which comes from other websites.

Be careful about getting back links because now a days Google implement penguin updates and this update is all about bad links (unnatural links, links get only for promotion). So avoid getting spammy links get only natural links and get impact from social media.

There many different advices here but as far as I think, using Google+ may give you two things at once, back links and new content. Google value this links more than any other links.

Very good question buddy, Backlinks are most important part in SEO because it leads a high gain traffic for your website.
Back links from high rated pages will be more useful and more helpful in ranking. do a good quality work with good quality of content for good backlinks.
