Crawling - when search engine bots find a new page added to internet then they visit them to fetch (to know what they are all about )them.
Indexing - While fetching the page if search bots find the content on the page relative or useful then they save (index) them in their memory and when somebody search for keywords related to that content then the search engines show the pages in their search results but the position (where will the pages be shown up in SERP) of your page depends on may other factors.

Crawling is When a search engine sends Search engine spiders to crawl the webpages around the internet database. This crawler reads all webpages carefully and gets back with a calculation and a few tags.

Indexing is when spiders gives all the collected information to the search engines and search engines Index a webpage listing on it, the collected calculations helps search engines to analyze the keywords for the webpage, by which show that in Search listing.

Crawling and indexing are two such terms.
Crawling:
When Google visits your website for tracking purposes. This process is done by Google’s Spider crawler.
Indexing:
After crawling has been done, the results get put onto Google’s index (i.e. web search).

Crawling means read the website without processing the results. Crawlers are rather dumb processes that fetch content supplied by Web servers answering (HTTP) requests of requested URIs, delivering those contents to other processes.

Indexing means save the website in search engines databases, shows the results when ever searches occur.

What is the difference between indexed and crawling?
Two of the often used terms in the business are crawling and indexing. These two words are sometimes, if not often, interchanged with one used to represent the other. With their seemingly “interchangeable” nature, many of us may dismiss the difference and declare that both crawling and indexing share the same definition.
CRAWLING
Crawling takes place when there is a successful fetching of unique URIs which can be traced from valid links from other web pages. It’s like Pacman following all those dots and eating them, only that in the case of crawling, it’s the search engine robots that follow the links.
INDEXING
Indexing takes place after a crawled URIs are processed. Note that there may be several URIs that are crawled but there could be fewer of them whose content will be processed through indexing. The following reasons could be the causes of non-indexing of a previously crawled page:
1. A noindex directive in the page (<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex” />)
2. Duplicate content: a page that has the same content as with an indexed page may not be indexed.

Indexing means to visit the site while crawling means to earn the data in server.

Is there any case a page is crawled but not indexed?
