The HTTP 404, 404 Not Found and 404 (pronounced "four oh four") error message is a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) standard response code, in computer network communications, to indicate that the client was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested.

A 404 error is regularly returned when pages have been moved or erased. 404 mistakes ought not be mistaken for DNS blunders, which show up when the given URL alludes to a server name that does not exist. A 404 mistake demonstrates that the server itself was found, yet that the server was not ready to recover the asked for page.

The protocol 404, 404 Not Found and 404 (pronounced "four Ohio four") error message may be a machine-readable text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) commonplace response code, in network communications, to point that the consumer was able to communicate with a given server, however the server couldn't realize what was requested.

A 404 error means that a file cannot be found. Use 301 redirect to move a page on another URL.
