I think its very correct to use google webmaster tool for exact result.
I often use the webmaster tool for same.

To see the information about backlinks, there are many tools. I use ahrefs, backlinkwatch and monitorbacklinks to check the backlinks and related information.

there are many online tools that count backlinks, but most reliable is webmaster from google, because it is administered by google itself, though ahref a firm based in singapore is also becoming popular these days, they update backlinks in just 15 minutes after they appear on any site.

SEMRUSH,
AHrefs,
Openlinkprofiler, BuzzSumo, Open site explorer,
Link diagnosis.
