I think there is no one way for getting backlink that gives high ranking, but you have to manage all type of relevant backlink links.

I have a question here.
I have seen many sites giving backlinks. They submit your given URL to whooping large number of sites (1000+). Does that really work ? Most of the time they display status message as "URL Pinged and page created" for each and every site they promise to create backlinks. What exactly is this ? Many of those so called 'pinged' URLS contain alexa or such websites. Does anyone know anything about this ?

Forums, bookmarking, some blog commenting, some directory submission are good for good link building.
