301 Moved Permanently. A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect which passes between 90-99% of link juice (ranking power) to the redirected page. 301 refers to the HTTP status code for this type of redirect. In most instances, the 301 redirect is the best method for implementing redirects on a website.

When we want to move our complete site from one URL to other than we have to apply 301 redirect code on it.

A 301 redirect, or also known as a permanent redirect, should be put in place to permanently redirect a page. The word ‘permanent’ is there to imply that ALL qualities of the redirected page will be passed on to the detour page.

If you move your website to a new domain or if you change the url of a page you can set up a redirect from the old url to the new url. This is especially helpful if you have lots of traffic going to the old url.
