Ranking category vs business page - Site Owners Forums

Hey guys. I was wondering which of the two would be better to rank if you have a website like yelp or TripAdvisor, your category pages or your business pages? And why. I did read once that yelp try's to rank their category pages although that blog post is 8 years old.
