I just registered a website and update it with 3 articles, i was surprise few days later that my website got a PR1. I don't know how it happened.. but even since it hasn't increase

Google Page rank is based on back links. Back links are Links pointing to your website from another website. The more back links you have the higher your PR will be.
1. Join forums,
2. Submit to search engine directories.
3. Using ezine ads
4. Creating and publishing articles.
5. Links from related websites.

If your site is a new one then no worries.. do moderate link building and update the content regularly soon the PR will increase in Google as the algorithm was updated and the new sites with fresh and unique contents are getting high PR's .

If you are not professional in field then you should hire or contract with a seo company that doing their jobs continuously then I hope after a specific time your site page rank will increase.......
