The originating site is called a “referrer” because it refers traffic from one place to the next. Referral traffic is one of three statistics tracked by Google Analytics. Traffic comes from external sources which called as a referral traffic.
For example, If you publish some content or visuals to external website like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram then user see your post there and click on links which redirect to source page (Your website's web page), So, that traffic called as Referral traffic. |

You can get referral traffic from link building. You must certainly have Google Analytics account, from there you can recognize your referral traffic.
Link building strategies include Blog commenting Question & Answers Guest Blog Posting Directory submissions etc…etc…etc… |
