Domain authority is a measure of “how good is your site, compared to others ". The more incoming and outbound links to higher authority sites, more will be the DA. 30-40 is average DA. Anything about 40 is good. Anything above 50 is excellent.

Do you think Domain Authority is not working because of Googles push to "Local" search results?

Domain Authority is a score (on a 100-point scale) developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engines. Use Domain Authority when comparing one site to another or tracking the “strength” of your website over time.

Domain authority must not be confused with page authority that is a completely different metric. While domain authority gives you the ranking of the site as a whole, page authority is the score of that single page in question.

Domain authority is an integral part of SEO. Domain authority is used as a predective measure for pagerank, google's proprietary algorithm that plays major role in determining
search engine results.
