Canonicalization is the process of converting data that involves more than one representation into a standard approved format. Such a conversion ensures that data conforms to canonical rules. This compares different representations to assure equivalence, to count numbers of distinct data structures, to impose a meaningful sorting order and to improve algorithm efficiency, thus eliminating repeated calculations.

canonical means conforming to well-established patterns or rules. The term is typically used to describe whether or not a programming interface follows the already established standard.

canonical tag - is used for if one or more pages have same content, than in that case we use canonical tag in our main page in the head section, then google consider main page where canonical tag is added.

A canonical issue arises when 301 redirects are not properly in place. This means that your website can be accessed by search engines from several different URLs. This means that search engines can then potentially index your site under different URLs, meaning that it will look like a site of duplicated content.

In information technology, canonicalization is the process of making something canonical that is, in conformance with some specification.

A canonical tag specifies the source URL (or original content page) of a given page to a search engine such as Google. Canonical tags are used to declare a single page as its own source or for duplicate pages to reference their source / originating page. Search Engines use the canonical tag to combat duplicate content issues and assign search engine ranking value for that content to the page designated as the source URL.

Copy substance is a major no-no to web crawlers. Having pages of indistinguishable or fundamentally the same as substance on your site is seen as a negative, and might be utilized by Google to downgrade your site while deciding rankings.
