word-wrap <pre>

i'm currently working on a blogging/journal system. whenever i pull data from my database it shows fine, but first it clears out the whitespace. If i use the <pre> tag to display it, it shows the whitespaces, but if the line is long, it drags off of the window until the line is actually ended.

I need a way to keep all white-space in tact without alteration or if there is a way to give pre a set width or wordwrap.
