Bounce Rate

A slow site reduces crawl efficiency and may have a rough time getting indexed. The bounce rate determines the visitors stay on the website for relevant information. Thus keeping the bounce rate as minimum as possible is an efficient strategy to rank high in the SERP.

Bounce rate is a very important metric for website owners. It basically tells you what percentage of your visitors are “bouncing” away behind landing on your site. Now at first glance it may appear that a high bounce rate is a problem, and from a search engine optimisation perspective it can be.

The bounce rate define for a page of a website as the number of visitors who enter the site at a page and leave within the specified timeout period without viewing another page, divided by the total number of visitors who entered the on that page of website.

Bounce rate should not be more than 30 to 35%. In order to retain this it is important to have unique and quality information on your site.

To decrease bounce rate, its very necessary to having good navigation structure, quality content and internal linking. Also its very necessary to website should have minimum bounce rate because high bounce rate website can not stay on higher position in Google ranking.

A high bounce rate is not necessarily a bad thing. If it is for the home page then I would agree it needs to be low, but if a visitor lands on an internal page they may find the information they are looking for on that page and not need to go anywhere else on the site.
When bounce rate is viewed in Google Analytics it is given as an average for the whole site, it is not just the home page. It requires looking further to see the rate for individual pages.

Bounce rate is usually high when your website fails to offer the required engagement to its visitors. You must have a low load time, relevant content and user friendly navigation to encourage your visitors to stay on your site longer exploring it. Good on page SEO and website development techniques can help combat this effectively.
