You have to fix both, require your own web based blog, and make articles and caller post on others to catch your name out there in the domain of SEM.

Both are they best method and help lot in ranking, but i would suggest to use blog its much easier to back link from it.

If you own a website you have to make an honest effort and put in the time to get your site ranked well with the search engines. Do some analyzing and evaluate how well your SEO keywords are doing.

Articles are synonymous with blog posts (articles). You can create backlinks with guest posts...articles from other sites with links in your article back to your site.

Unless your blog is highly ranked, the articles will get more exposure, since there are more chances of your article being seen by more people.I can tell you that articles help re-enforce what you are selling. By writing an article instead of a blog, there is a perception that more care is taken to writing an article, therefore the information contained within is worth more.
