tables on top of backgrounds

Here is the problem i am having: i have a page set up with tables. NOw i want to add a background to the whole page that has designs running down the left side of it. i want the whole site to move to the right so that the links on the left wont cover the designs. I think i need to make the whole site a table and align it left with the width at about 80%. How can i do this without disrupting the whole page and all the tables on it. Anyone have any suggestions.
Thanks

In my opinion you should stop using tables, just divvs.

hey bro you use 1946 method .so i would like to suggest you, don't use table method go to div methods . And it will save your time. If not then open your table page in dreamweaver you will get all suggestions .

I think you have to do it with div method. it is very easy to use and convenient. Div are used in php language. It is easy to learn and work.

Div option is the best when it comes to designing background tables for top. Use of PHP is extensively involved while creating background tables for webpages.

As far as designing background tables for top are concerned, div option is best by far. PHP is also used to large extent for creating background tables for webpages.
