The fish in baby food

The fish has many nutritional benefits for the child. It must be introduced very gradually feeding the baby. But which one to choose? How to prepare? Our advices.

baby feeding Introduce fish in baby food will optimize its contributions to Selenium, Iodine, Fluor, and Omega 3. However, up to 3 years, portions remain relatively low, since ' must give priority to a milk diet.

At what age to introduce the fish?

You never introduced seafood before 6 months of age.

The tendency is to delay diversification, prevention of food allergies.

During introductions, your pediatrician will guide you.

Between 6 months and 7 months.

Introducings seafood, alternating with meat, one of two main meals, usually at noon.

Mixed with vegetables 2 teaspoons (10 g) of cooked seafood without fat and well mixed. At first, we put everything into the bottle of milk (by reducing the proportion of milk). As soon as the baby wants, eats his meals with a spoon.

We start with white fish whose flavor is not too strong, flounder, sole, pollock, cod. According to the baby taste, we also try salmon. It does not exceed the recommended portion, because excess protein food unnecessarily overloading the baby back. smoked fish is avoided, dried, and canned (too salty).

Between 7 months and 8 months.

Baby continues to eat seafood, alternating with meat: 2-4 tablespoons mixed coffee or crushed (10 to 20 g) to one of its two main meals. If he consumes the egg, it replaces. It diversifies with new fish, baby may very well eat mackerel or sardines if he likes the taste.

9 months to 1 year.

The amount of daily fish does not exceed 20 g. It is always served alternately with meat or egg. Gradually, we proposed into small pieces. It's time to introduce the seafood, such as mussels or prawns, fresh and well cooked.

Between 1 and 3 years.

Baby continues to not eat seafood, meat, or egg once a day, 20 g to 1 year, 30 g 2 years, 40 to 50 g to 3 years. The portion is small to limit protein intake, which easily exceed the recommended intake. Even if the causal link is not fully demonstrated, it was observed that children who consume too much protein before the age of 3 years have a greater risk of developing obesity. Baby can now consume canned fish (not dirty it is served with vegetables).

Fish house or small pots?

both can be toggled, that is best for the education of taste, not to accustom baby to one type of preparation. When home cooking can be used fish or fresh seafood and frozen kind (not breaded). You have to be very strict on their freshness, and avoid seafood that have too many edges (trout, sea bream). We cooked without fat, steamed, or broth. It is not dirty them.

We can have confidence in small pots and dishes for children under 3 years highly regulated: without preservatives, colors, artificial flavors, little salty with pesticide residue and very low nitrates. They contain the right proportions of seafood and vegetables. Fish cooked home will keep up to 24 hours in the refrigerator, the maximum begun infant products 48 hours.

What if my child is allergic ?

We wait six months of age or 1 year to introduce seafood, 1 year of age for seafood. Allergies to fish and seafood are relatively common in children. Of course, we follow the advice of the pediatrician.
