Decide whether you want to develop web technologies (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript), mobile apps (Android,iOS,Windows Mobile), server development (PHP, Node.js, ASP.NET), or write desktop applications (.NET, WinForms, C++, C, WPF).

First of all select a strong language for developing applications and then install tools or IDE
Begin with a couple of tutorials, just to familiarize yourself with the language.
tart doing some simple programming exercises.
Start working on a simple programming project to know how to build logic and develop an applicaiton

First step of a programmer should be that he/ she should learn basics of programming. Whether he/ she is going to have a career in web programming, Java Programming or in C Programming, he/ she should learning basics of programming like what data types, what are arrays, what are structures and what are loops. He/ She should practice each and every basic of programming him/herself.
