When you post something on site which is awesome and attract the people's attention and people would love to share such good, funny or any kind of content with others and also give link backs to share it with others it called link bait. But for this you need to create something unique, awesome, great which is going to like by people.

In my opinion if your share link on other sites, that may be informative for other and useful and visitor like and share it. its a good process to get backlinks.
