Pagination is used to send the user to another page of same website. For Example, if you search something it will it number of page which have same type of data. Now you can decided which page to visit.
Pagination is very important especially for ecommerce sites, as it helps the website to be better indexed and allows you to also increase your targeted keywords in a single page if you are using the rel=”canonical” for a “view all page”.

Google prefers up to a 100 links on a single page. Normally when a user types into a search box, the results may go over 100. So we need to paginate(divide into multiple pages) the answer list.

For example, google search results are paginated. You can decide to show only 10, 50 or 100 results per search results page using your settings.

In the end, the same effect is achieved by categorization. The search results are divided into logical categories and the user has to further select each category and be shown further links. Such categorized links are likely to be less than 100 in number.

You use pagination when your website related to e-commerce website because you have a number of products and number of pages.
