As with other markup formats, schema microdata is applied to the content of a page to define exactly what it is and how it should be treated. Schema elements and attributes can be added directly to the HTML code of a web page to provide the search engines' crawlers with additional information.

Schema.org gives a gathering of shared vocabularies website admins can use to increase their pages in ways that can be comprehended by the significant web indexes: Google, Microsoft, Yandex and Yahoo! You utilize the schema.org vocabulary alongside the Microdata, RDFa, or JSON-LD arrangements to add data to your Web content.
