To get your image indexed in Google search engine or other search engine. becuase search engine doesn't read the image it use alt txt to read.

Because when google crawler crawl a website then they are not capable to read images in the website. To read our website images, we used alt text in images.

Yeah,inserting alt text to your image help to people directly entering in your website through clicking that image.By that your website getting good amount of traffic.
