Well I use Windows everyday but I like Linux for servers and Ubuntu for when the IRS comes to see the licenses.

Linux is good and people started using as the positive aspects of security, speed and it is open source.

It is really depends upon user which website application they are going to use.
For example you will need windows server if you are planning to host asp.net application. Similarly if you are looking to host php or any opensource application then linux server is best option. In webhosting industry linux and windows both are equally important.

I personally prefer any linux distro really. Ubuntu is pretty smooth, centos and debian are nice as well. I'd go with windows but the license fees are usually a turn off.

Linux distro is good. Ubuntu also works pretty smooth. Debian and centos are also very nice. But I prefer to go with windows where license fees are turned off.
