It depends upon which country you are talking about. I stay in India and here renting house is indeed cheaper than buying because real estate market is quite speculated here. However in developed countries this is not the case. E.g In London buying a house will be lot cheaper than renting in long term.

Renting a house will be cheaper than buying a house. The difference is you have to pay rent every month to the owner and buying a house will be your's and you will be the owner of the house.

I think it is mainly because while renting a house we don't have to spend much on maintenance and repair since we would be more concerned about the living rather than the house.

The renter should know what the lease can and cannot do before signing. Local laws do not always cover the conditions covered by leasing and tenancy agreements. The renter’s lease is legally binding when it comes to the living arrangements and the renter’s rights.
The renter should know how to protect their security deposit. This can be done by doing a through walk-through prior to signing a lease. All pre-existing damage must be documented.
The renter should know about the renter’s insurance policy. Renter’s insurance protects the renter against damage and losses due to flooding, fires, robbery, and other adverse events.

It's obvious that when you rent, you don't own the house.
