External links pass "link juice" (ranking power) differently than internal links because the search engines consider them as third-party votes.

Obviously External link provides more link value but we can not ignore internal link also. We should have every important link on home page.

Keep in mind that a hyperlinked keyword which comes within the content portion passes highest recommendation value than a link put on the main menu, a footer link or side menus. It is also an important fact to know that a link achieved from a content rich page which is published in own topic content will give high recommendation vale the pointing page.
