Article directories and blogs are good source of backlinks. If it is necessary to check which is superior, it depends on the size, domain age,niche, PR etc of the website. Because both blogs and article directories are useful only if the content you are submitting is unique and quality one.

Article is used for keyword boosting. Blog is online web diary.In my opinion Blog is better than Article.

Article submission is good because it gives you unique and quality of backlinks. blog posting is also useful to increase visitors to your sites but article submission is best way of promotion.
