Panda is the official name of a Google algorithm update developed to reduce the prevalence of low-quality, thin content in the search results, and to reward unique, compelling content. At the time Panda launched, user complaints about the increasing influence of “content farms” were growing rampant.

Google Penguin Update Overview: The Google Penguin Update launched on April 24. According to the Google blog, Penguin is an “important algorithm change targeted at webspam. The change will decrease rankings for sites that we believe are violating Google's existing quality guidelines.”

Google panda was a change to googles search results ranking algorithm that was first released in feb 2011. The change aimed to lower the rank of low quality sites and return higher quality sites near the top of the search results.
Google penguin is launched in april 2012 to better identify and regulate websites that were considered as spammy or overly optimised.

Google Penguin Update Overview: The Google Penguin Update propelled on April 24. As indicated by the Google blog, Penguin is an "essential calculation change focused at web spam. The change will diminish rankings for locales that we accept are abusing Google's current quality rules."

It appears that Google's goal with all of these algorithm changes (Panda, Penguin, and Hummingbird) is to encourage webmasters to publish content that is the best of its kind. Google's goal is to deliver answers to people who are searching. ... Hummingbird really is different than Panda and Penguin.

Google Panda is a major change to Google's search results ranking algorithm that was first released in February 2011. The change aimed to lower the rank of "low-quality sites" or "thin sites", in particular "content farms", and return higher-quality sites near the top of the search results.

Google Penguin is a codename for a Google algorithm update that was first announced on April 24, 2012.

The Panda update is a filter that is designed to penalize “thin” or poor content from ranking well. Whereas Penguin is a filter that is designed to penalize websites that have bad link building techniques and keyword stuffing.

The first thing you need to know is that Google Penguin only deals with incoming links into a website (also known as “backlinks”). In other words, it looks at which sites are linking to you, not which sites you are linking out to.

These have had the most effect on website's rankings since, still well into 2016. The Panda update is a filter that is designed to penalize “thin” or poor content from ranking well.
