Yes, no doubt backlinks are too much important when you are doing SEO for your website and to get more traffic.

Yeah no Doubt backlinks are still very important.
But the quality of backlinks matters alot like if your are getting a backlink from some social bookmarking sites and you are getting backlinks from their content then it's the best.

Backlinks are always important. Backlinks are the ranking vote ups for a website. But be careful, one can downrank whole your website and another may get you up in the first page of Google.
Try to get few links from one high authority website targeted to your niche, relevant links with an anchor text gives the highest value.
